Common Questions
About the Recall Process
-
Is the Recall only for D4 residents, or is this citywide?
The recall is specific to District 4 (D4). Only residents of D4 can sign the petition and vote in the recall election.
-
Who can sign the recall petition?
Only registered voters who live in District 4 are eligible to sign the recall petition.
-
If the signature gathering phase is successful and it gets on the ballot, who can vote to recall Supervisor Engardio?
If the recall qualifies for the ballot, only voters in District 4 will be able to participate in the election.
-
Is there a website I can go to sign the recall?
Unfortunately, there isn’t a website where you can sign the recall petition. It must be done in person, using a legally approved document, to ensure everything meets official requirements.
If you’re interested in signing, please check out the latest weekly schedule here to see where you can sign the petition.
-
Can I print out the petition at home and collect D4 residents' signatures?
Unfortunately, no. The petition is a legal document with strict guidelines from the Department of Elections (DoE), including formatting, margins, and font size. Even small changes could make the document—and any signatures on it—invalid.
The good news is that the recall team will provide training to walk you through the process and make sure everything is done correctly. You’ll also be issued an official badge by the DoE, which you must wear while gathering signatures.

Can I help collect signatures?
Absolutely! If you’d like to help collect signatures, the recall team provides all the necessary training to ensure everything is done correctly. You’ll learn how to handle the petition properly and follow the rules set by the Department of Elections. After training, you’ll also receive an official badge, which you must wear while gathering signatures.
Signing up is easy—just reach out through the SIGN UP FORM on the website, email team@recallengardio.com or text 415-349-3503, and someone will guide you through the process.
-
If I signed the LETTER OF INTENT to recall Joel Engardio, do I also have to sign the petition?
Yes, you do. Signing the Letter of Intent was just the first step to initiate the recall process. For your signature to count toward qualifying the recall for the ballot, you must also sign the official recall petition.
-
How many signatures do you need to collect, and by when?
To qualify the recall for the ballot, we need to collect approximately 13,000 signatures from registered voters in District 4. All signatures must be submitted to the Department of Elections by May 22, 2025.
